铜管乐团（Brass Band）这一概念与我们通常所理解的铜管合奏乐队（Brass Ensemble）不同，它专指英式的铜管乐队，有固定的乐队编制和声部配置，乐队规模一般在30人左右，演出形式灵活多样，既可以在室外演奏，也可以在室内以音乐会的形式演出，演奏曲目和风格既可演奏古典作品，也可演奏流行和爵士音乐。这种乐队形式在欧洲和美国包括日本非常普及，深受大众的喜爱。在这些国家除了专业乐队外，很多社区和学校都有自己的铜管乐队，每年这些国家都要举行铜管乐队比赛。
